Evernote Food: Dinner at The Painted Lady

Dinner at The Painted Lady

The Painted Lady

No grass fed beef!!! Really painted lady?? I drove from Eugene today and saw grass fed cows!! What a shame.

Chef trio....
Salmon on cucumber was good.
Chilled butternut squash soup was awesome.
Potato croquette on pesto was great.

Second course...
Miso Custard with dashi broth. - fantastic!
Edamame, lotus.

Third course...
Gnocchi, beurre blanc, Parmesan crisp, prosciutto... Mushrooms. Excellent.

Fourth course...
Seared scallop with duck confit. Butternut squash and Pinot noir gastrique. Wow.

Fifth course...
Pork tenderloin. Date sauce. Brussels. Applewood smoke in dome. Delish and just the right size

Sixth course... Cheese. Good.
Raw cow milk cheese. Quince, nuts, pear... Side of crostini.

Palate cleanser... Citrus and something bitter slushie... Yuk.

Dessert...
Peaches with champagne and chèvre
Pana cotta with crumble
Sorbet (über sweet)
Apple mascarpone tart (über sweet)

Attentive staff and overall well paced. Interesting decor, set in old house. Decor feels old/dated but that is really the look they are going for. Sort of reminds me of the mansion in savannah or other boutique hotel. Mostly older crowd. Could easily hear conversations at other tables.

Fantastic meal. Great service. No complaints.

5 seasons brewing company - west side

I love the fact that they try to use organic and local ingredients. I also enjoyed the watermelon and peach ales. I love their skybar (a.k.a. Patio on the roof). But the name of this blog is snoblog and I wouldn't be a snob if I didn't critique the food...

Someone on the staff must be Mexican since they have quesadillas and chilaquiles on the menu.

We tried the quesadilla which was OK. The beet salad was good too. But that's where it ended.

Renee ordered the kobe flat iron steak. Maybe it from Japan, maybe it is just someone from Japan cooking it but the reality is that it was not kobe nor good. It was under cooked the first time around and overcooked the second time around. The second cut of meat (after head chef was. involved) was much better than the first.

My grilled ravioli were more like wontons and aside from the cajun spices it was pretty bland.

I guess we'd consider coming back for beer and possibly appetizers but certainly not a meal.

Truly disappointing for what had all the hopes of being an awesome meal. And I had to leave Toby home. OY!

Cafe del Sol - Midtown Atlanta

To be fair, this was recommended to us for their burgers. As far as that is concerned, it was below average. Both Vortex and George's are better.

It has a really nice atmosphere though and Toby is welcome! The patio is nice and its location a block away from Ponce on Highland is convenient.

I would consider going again but certainly not for burgers.

M.F. Sushi - Midtown Atlanta

Arguably the best sushi in town also comes with a hefty price tag. The fish is ALWAYS fresh and the place is hip. The service can be spotty but the food more than makes up for it.

Ask for their Japanese fish specials and get the Otoro if available.

Parking is easy either with Valet or in the lot around the corner.

At $180 for 4 though it is a treat to be enjoyed sparingly.

Savannah Moon Bakery and Cafe - Thomasville, GA

A welcome retreat on the main street of Thomasville. The family owned restaurant serves up breakfast and lunch in a quaint atmosphere. Get there early because they close by 3.

Dynamic Dish - Old Fourth Ward, Atlanta

Look, I realize that eating vegetarian food is healthy. I also realize that cooking veggies so they taste yummy is difficult. Quite honestly, I actually enjoyed our meal. It fulfilled both of these points (it was healthy and tasty) but it had NO MEAT!

The place is sort of sparse. Which plays nicely with the sparse (err...fresh) menu consisting of three or four local items each day.

The soup was yummy and the pizza (named in german frei-pizza-ugen or something) was great too. The squash quiche was nice and the portions were fine. When the bill came though, I couldn't help but feeling hungry for the amount I paid. It was about $50 for the two of us for veggies.

On a more positive note, Renee (who thought she would find nothing to eat) actually ate quite a bit and found herself enjoying the meal. She reached her 'veggie' tolerance rather quickly and it was downhill from there.

I don't think we'll be going back unless I can BMOM (bring my own meat).

Olive Bistro - Midtown Atlanta

When in the mood for Mediterranean cuisine in either Midtown or Marietta consider the Olive Bistro.

They won't knock your socks off. Nothing they serve is phenomenal but it is all consistently good. The hummus is good, the falafel is good and the gyro wrap is good.

They have whole wheat pitas to serve along with the dips.

You can make a nice lite meal out of a few dips and a small greek salad.

At $30 it is a nice alternative to not-so-healthy fare.

Renée says it is not quite her favorite but she tolerates it! :)
